Thirteen people have tragically lost their lives in a fatal road accident on Monday, October 14, after a VIP bus veered off the road and plunged into a ditch near Kwapia, close to Obuasi, in the Western North Region of Ghana.
According to police reports, the victims include seven men, five women, and one child, all of whom were passengers on the bus.
Eleven passengers died instantly at the scene, while another passenger passed away later in hospital.
The driver, Osei Adu, who was also rushed to the hospital, sadly died from his injuries shortly after arrival.
Eyewitnesses reported that the bus, registered as ER 2445-11, became overloaded after picking up additional passengers from a broken-down bus along the route.
The overloaded bus lost control while navigating a sharp curve, causing it to skid off the road and crash into a ditch.
Emergency responders, including police officers and firefighters, swiftly arrived at the scene of the incident to rescue survivors and provide medical attention to the injured.
Among those receiving treatment are two police officers on escort duty, whose condition remains critical.
