A Russian airstrike on Ukraine’s capital Kyiv in the early hours of Tuesday has claimed the life of a US citizen, with at least 16 others injured, according to the city’s mayor.
“During the attack on Kyiv… a 62-year-old American was killed in a building opposite where medics were attending to the wounded,” Vitali Klitschko announced on Telegram.
Klitschko earlier reported that 16 people had been injured across the capital, the majority of them in the Solomyansky district. He warned that the city remained under threat, as Russian drones continued to approach Kyiv from multiple directions.
“Enemy UAVs are still flying towards the city from three directions. There is also a missile threat. Do not leave shelters!” the mayor urged residents.

Tymur Tkachenko, who heads Kyiv’s military administration, described the ongoing assault as a “combined enemy strike,” explaining that Russia was using both missiles and attack drones, with fires breaking out in different parts of the city as a result.
Andriy Yermak, chief of staff to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, condemned the renewed Russian assault, accusing Moscow of deliberately targeting civilian areas in Kyiv. “They continue their war against civilians,” Yermak said on Telegram.
The attacks come as diplomatic efforts led by the United States to secure a ceasefire have faltered. Russia has dismissed Kyiv’s demand for an “unconditional” truce, while Ukraine has rejected what it calls Moscow’s “ultimatums.”
Despite ongoing peace talks, Moscow has maintained its offensive, striking Ukrainian cities regularly and escalating tensions further.
