At least 20 people were injured on Thursday when a car ploughed into a group of people in Munich, Germany.
Authorities have confirmed that the driver, a 24-year-old Afghan asylum seeker, was taken into custody at the scene.
Munich police assured the public that there is no ongoing threat.
“The driver of the vehicle was secured on the spot; he currently poses no further danger,” police stated. However, it remains unclear whether the crash was an accident or a deliberate act.

According to broadcaster BR24, those affected were reportedly taking part in a symbolic strike organised by the Verdi trade union.
Some eyewitnesses claimed that two men were in the vehicle, with one allegedly shot by police and taken away. Police have urged the public not to jump to conclusions as investigations continue.
The crash occurred just a day before the start of the Munich Security Conference, a high-profile event bringing together global political and security leaders. The conference venue is about 1.6 kilometres (one mile) from where the incident occurred.
