Over 200,000 displaced Bassa indigenes in Nasarawa State are said to return to their ancestral homes on February 10, 2025, after the communal clash with Egburas and Gomina.
This followed several peace meetings organised by the state government and heads of security agencies in the state to end the long-time disagreement between both tribes.
The acting Chairman, Bassa Youth for Peace Coalition Forum, Joshua Gomina made the disclosure while speaking with journalists in the area on Monday, February 3, 2025.

While explaining that his kinsmen had been displaced since April 22, 2018, when a communal clash ensued against the Egburas, Gomina commended the state government, security operatives and the LG authority for their efforts in ensuring that all outstanding disputes and disagreements are resolved.
Gomina further explained that the Governor Abdullahi Sule had permitted the Commanding Officer 177 Guard Battalion, Keffi, and the Chairman of Toto LG, Ahmad Yahaya to commence the safe return of the displaced Bassa people to their ancestral lands.
He, therefore, noted that for the returnees coming from the Lagos, Ibadan, Kaduna and Lokoja axes, the meeting point would be at Kekeshi Village, Abaji Area Council, FCT, Abuja, while those coming from Benue, Plateau, and Lafia axes, would be meeting at Gunki village of Nasarawa LG of the state.
Gomina urged all displaced individuals and families of the Bassa ethnic group from Toto Local Government Area who are currently spread across the Nation to prepare for their return home.
Those who will be present at the convergence is National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons; the UN Refugee Agency; the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development; National Emergency Management Agency; Non-governmental Organisations; among others to support the Bassa returnees with any assistance.
