The plenary resumption of the Senate and the House of Representatives has been rescheduled from Tuesday, January 28, 2025, to Tuesday, February 4, 2025.
Separate statements from the two legislative chambers on Friday revealed the development.
Informing senators of the change in the resumption date, Senate Clerk Andrew Nwoba explained that the postponement was caused by Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) continuing to defend the 2025 budget proposal.
“Please be advised that the resumption date has been rescheduled due to the ongoing budget defence. The new date is Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. prompt, instead of Tuesday, January 28, 2025,” he stated.
“The postponement is necessary to allow committees sufficient time to conclude ongoing budget engagements and defences with MDAs” was another statement made by Representatives spokesman Akin Rotimi.
“This action guarantees a careful and all-encompassing commitment to legislative duties.
“The House is dedicated to carrying out its legislative mandate for the benefit of Nigerians and values the cooperation of all parties involved,” he stated.
President Bola Tinubu submitted a 2025 budget proposal worth ₦49.7 trillion to a joint session of the National Assembly on December 18, 2024, for approval.
