Stanley Nwabali, the goalkeeper for Nigeria’s Super Eagles and a shining star at Chippa United, has expressed sheer delight at realising his dream of meeting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Reflecting on his encounter at the State House on Tuesday, Nwabali shared his jubilation, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to meet the Nigerian leader.
“It’s so nice; it’s been my dream to meet the President, and today, it’s so nice, I won’t even talk about my reaction because, merely looking at my face, you’ll see that I’m so happy,” remarked Nwabali.
He continued, “Even my teammates are so happy because the way Mr. President said we reached our best, but it was up to him to show this kind of appreciation to us. But I appreciate him so much; to be honest, they tried for us.”
Addressing his imminent return to Chippa United following the conclusion of his contract, Nwabali emphasised the transient nature of football, dismissing any undue concerns.
“I must go back to my club, but talking about the threat, this is football, you can’t threaten someone because they also won some other teams too,” Nwabali stated. He added, “How about if those they won decided to keep threatening your players? It doesn’t make sense.”
Regarding rumoured threats, Nwabali remained unfazed, attributing them to social media chatter devoid of substance.
“It’s football, I don’t think there’s anything attached to it. Maybe it was just someone writing on social media. But it’s cool to me because I spoke to my chairman three days ago, but he didn’t say anything like all that stuff.” Nwabali affirmed.
