President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was honoured on Sunday with the Grand Officier de la Légion d’Honneur, one of France’s most prestigious awards.
The French President, Emmanuel Macron, presented the honour to him in Paris during an official state visit.
This accolade recognises President Akufo-Addo’s notable efforts in advancing diplomacy, promoting democratic values, and supporting international cooperation.
The Grand Officier de la Légion d’Honneur is among the highest ranks in France’s Légion d’Honneur, an order established by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802 to recognise outstanding service to the nation and the world.
The award ceremony followed a working lunch between Presidents Macron and Akufo-Addo, underscoring the growing relationship between Ghana and France. The two leaders discussed issues of shared interest, strengthening the foundation for future collaborations.
President Akufo-Addo has been widely recognised for his commitment to democratic governance, sustainable growth, and peace initiatives in Ghana and across Africa. His efforts have deepened Ghana’s ties with France, paving the way for increased cooperation in areas like economic development, climate action, education, and cultural exchange.
This award is one of many international honours President Akufo-Addo has received, reflecting his commitment to public service and his influential role on the global stage.
The Légion d’Honneur remains one of France’s highest symbols of respect, awarded to individuals who make significant contributions in areas ranging from public service to humanitarian work.
