Graca Machel, the renowned Mozambican activist and widow of former South African leader Nelson Mandela, has criticised the international community’s inaction regarding attacks in Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, and Sudan, the Middle East News Agency reports.
Speaking on Friday while accepting the Boutros-Ghali Award for Peace and Knowledge, Machel attributed ongoing violations in these regions to the world’s failure to take a stand. The award was presented by the Kemet Boutros-Ghali Foundation.
Machel called for courage in addressing global injustices. We must “summon the courage to speak the truth, whatever the cost, and to transform ourselves into warriors for peace,” she said.
She emphasised that Africans, with their history of struggle and oppression, understand the dangers of silence. She urged people everywhere to reject apathy and actively work towards justice and peace.
