The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has stated that it firmly supports Nigeria and other member states who have been accused by the Niger Republic of funding terrorist activities against it.
According to the Niger Republic, Nigeria and other ECOWAS nations conspired with France to cause instability in the nation.
In a statement on Thursday, ECOWAS, however, called the accusations “unfounded.”
According to the ECOWAS, accusations against Nigeria and other ECOWAS members are extremely concerning. The Commission is adamantly opposed to claims that Nigeria and other ECOWAS members are funding terrorists.
“Nigeria has long promoted the peace and security of numerous nations on the African continent as well as in the West African sub-region.”Nigeria’s commitment to regional peace and security is exemplified by the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), which it heads, and its recent accomplishments.
Part of the statement said, “ECOWAS refutes any suggestion that such a generous and magnanimous country would become a state sponsor of terrorism.”
Then, ECOWAS urged all of the region’s governments to encourage communication and stability and to abstain from unfounded charges.
On Thursday, the Nigerian government refuted the accusation made by the Niger Republic.
In a statement, Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, refuted allegations made by General Abdourahamane Tchiani, the military leader of the Niger Republic, that Nigeria was collaborating with France against his nation.
These assertions only exist in the domain of the imagination. According to the statement, Nigeria has never formed an overt or covert alliance with France or any other nation to undermine the Niger Republic.
