Two teenager sisters were detained in Pakistan on Wednesday for allegedly setting fire to their father in retaliation for rape.
The father was assaulted in the Punjabi city of Gujranwala on January 1 and taken to the hospital, where he died on Tuesday.
“The girls said that they decided amongst themselves to find a ‘permanent solution’,” Rizwan Tariq, a senior police officer in the city, told AFP.
They then stole petrol from a motorbike and set fire to their father while he slept, he said.
The step-sisters said their father had raped the eldest daughter for a year and attempted to rape the younger girl twice.
Their moms, both married to the man, were aware of the abuse but unaware of the retribution plan.
The AFP has not identified the father in order to safeguard the names of the girls, one of whom is from a previous marriage.
One of the wives has also been arrested, while the second is being questioned.
“We expect to present them before the court in a few days, as soon as we finish the investigation,” Tariq told reporters.
