Senator John Azuta-Mbata has emerged as the 13th President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, an influential socio-cultural group representing the Igbo people.
Mbata, a former senator representing Rivers East at the National Assembly, was elected at the stakeholders’ meeting of Ohanaeze Ndigbo held at the Old Government Lodge, Enugu.
Earlier, police chief Mike Okiro withdrew from the race following an order of the court, which adopted a motion demanding the state of origin of Okiro.
Okiro is allegedly from Imo State, not River State, which the slot was zoned to.
The election was carried out through voice voting, and together with Azuta-Mbata, 15 other individuals were selected for various executive roles within the group.
