Abayomi Whint, a Nigerian woman based in the United States, has officially taken the oath of office as a judge for the Kings County New York Civil Court.
The announcement was made through a video titled “Welcome to the bench, Your Honour!” shared on her Instagram page on January 23, 2025.
Whint was among the eight candidates elected as judges in Brooklyn during the November 2024 elections.
In the video, she was sworn in at Brooklyn Law School, reciting the oath of office as her family and friends—dressed in white and green—cheered her on.

She declared, “…to discharge the duties of the office of judge for the Kings County New York Civil Court, according to the best of my ability. So help me God.”
With over 20 years of legal experience, Whint has primarily practiced in the public sector. She is a seasoned litigator, certified mediator, and arbitrator with expertise in conflict resolution.
Beyond her legal career, she has played an active role in organisational leadership, promoting inclusive cultures, team building, and the use of restorative practices as a Restorative Circle Keeper.
Her LinkedIn profile describes her perspective on justice: “She views justice not merely as a concept but as an active commitment to fairness, equity, and truth in every decision.”
