    Algeria Rights Group To Prosecute France For Nuclear Tests

    In response to France’s failure to respond to Algerians’ repeated demands for compensation for victims of nuclear explosions in the country’s south, a human rights organization defending victims of French nuclear tests in Algeria announced that it is preparing a judicial file to be submitted to the International Criminal Court (ICC).

    News Central reports that the legacy of France’s nuclear crimes on Algerian soil was between 1960-1966, with Frane alleged to have conducted 17 different nuclear tests during that time.

    On February 13, the 61st anniversary of the first French nuclear explosion in the Algerian desert, the nation’s Foreign Minister Sabri Boukadoum said the nuclear tests were three to four times the size of the US bombing of Hiroshima in Japan, describing it as ‘catastrophic’.
