Another Fire Breaks Out at Kenyan School, Third Incident in Days

On Sunday, a fire ravaged a dormitory at Njia Boys High School in Meru County, central Kenya, marking the third school fire in just a few days. According to a police statement, the dormitory caught fire while students were having supper, fortunately resulting in no casualties. However, the blaze completely destroyed the building, which housed around 150 students, along with property of unknown value.

This latest incident follows two other fires in Kenyan schools last week. On Thursday, a tragic fire at Hillside Endarasha Academy in Nyeri County claimed the lives of 21 boys as they slept in their dormitory. Just a day later, on Saturday, another fire broke out at a girls’ high school in Isiolo County, causing several injuries, although no fatalities were reported.

These consecutive fires have raised serious concerns about safety standards in Kenyan schools. President William Ruto has promised that those responsible for the deadly incident at Hillside Endarasha Academy will be held accountable.
