The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed any concerns over the recent meeting between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stating that it does not pose a threat to President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
Senator Ajibola Basiru, the APC National Secretary, commented on the gathering, which took place in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Monday.
Atiku led a delegation of political figures, including former governors Aminu Tambuwal and Liyel Imoke, but he stated that the meeting was not politically motivated, describing it as a courtesy call rather than a political discussion.
However, Basiru responded by calling the meeting a gathering of “indolent and lazy” politicians, pointing out that the APC is focused on its own agenda, including preparations for the Anambra governorship election on November 8.
He further clarified that the APC is not concerned with such political meetings and does not see them as a threat.

According to Basiru, the APC is fully committed to the “Renewed Hope Agenda” of President Tinubu, and they are not distracted by the actions of others. He emphasised that the party is united and does not face any internal crisis, making them confident in their political strength.
His words:
“We don’t react to the her people’s acts as a political party. We only do our own things. Presently, our plate is full. We are personally concentrating on how to win and bring Anambra on board for the APC. So, we don’t have time for talks on any political meetings. We also have a responsibility to run the government.
“They are indolent; they don’t have anything to do. So, they can meet any day, any time. Our government is concentrating on delivering the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu. We don’t have an issue with some indolent people meeting anybody they want to meet.
“How can people who are in disarray be a threat to a solid political party like the APC? We are talking about a party that is not embedded in any crisis and has high-calibre people who can win elections.
“So we are not worried. We are concentrating on winning the Anambra governorship election on November 8. That’s where our concentration lies for now.”
