The governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has been selected as the candidate for his party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), for the upcoming governorship election on November 8, 2025.
The incumbent, who was declared unopposed, received more than 300 votes during the primary held in Awka this past Saturday.
Voting was carried out among the delegates from all 21 local government areas in the state, who were asked to indicate either a yes or no on the ballot. After the voting concluded, the votes were sorted and counted.
Uche Nwegbo, the chairman of the electoral panel, announced the results of the process, stating that there were 3,260 total delegates for the primary, 3,175 accredited delegates, 3,172 total votes cast, four invalid ballots, 3,168 yes votes, and no votes cast for no.
Following these results, Nwegbo declared Soludo as the APGA’s candidate for the governorship election on November 8, 2025, to jubilant cheers from the audience.

“With utmost gratitude to Him, utmost surrender to Him, in humility, I want to say that I’m humbled by this unprecedented historic display of solidarity, support, and overwhelming mandate given to me again by our party again to be able to fly its flag for the forthcoming election. And I want to say with humility, I accept the nomination.” The governor as he accepted his nomination.
Soludo added that he would contest the election alongside his current deputy, Onyeka Ibezim, as his running mate.
Once other political parties finish their primary elections, the political landscape will become more transparent for Soludo as he prepares for the November election.
