The Adamawa state government, in Nigeria’s northeast, has initiated monitoring of schools across the state to ensure total compliance with the government directive to close schools to curb the spread of measles.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Mrs. Aisha Umar, stated that the exercise aims to ensure that students at both primary and secondary levels are immunised against the disease.

She warned that the government would sanction any school that defies the directives in the state, emphasising that the exercise is necessary to prevent the further spread of the disease.

Health officials report that the state currently has 25 active cases without any casualties.
