Spain have announced their squad for next month’s UEFA Women’s Euro 2025, with star midfielders Aitana Bonmatí and Alexia Putellas expected to spearhead the team’s campaign. However, veteran forward Jenni Hermoso has again been left out of the national setup.
Manager Montse Tomé has selected 11 players from the squad that lifted the 2023 World Cup, yet Hermoso—Spain’s all-time top goalscorer—is absent, continuing a run of omissions since the controversial events that followed the World Cup final.
Tomé reiterated that the decision is based purely on footballing grounds.
“I spoke with Jenni earlier this year,” Tomé explained at a press conference. “She joined us for the first FIFA window but didn’t play much. We’ve assessed her season and had several discussions with her club coach. We’ve taken everything into account in making this decision.”
Hermoso, who now plays in Mexico for Tigres, has not been recalled since the incident involving former Spanish FA president Luis Rubiales, who kissed her without consent during the World Cup trophy presentation. Rubiales was fined €10,800 for sexual assault, a decision that is currently under appeal.

Spain will warm up with a friendly against Japan on 27 June before travelling to Switzerland, where they begin their Euro 2025 campaign in Group B. Their opening match is against Portugal in Bern on 3 July, followed by clashes with Belgium on 7 July and Italy on 11 July.
