Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has donated ₦300 million to support victims of the recent flood disaster in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State.

Zulum made the announcement on Tuesday while leading a delegation from Borno on a condolence visit to Government House in Minna. He extended sympathies to the government and people of Niger State following the devastating flood, which claimed over 200 lives and displaced thousands across the North-Central region.

He explained that the donation aims to support and complement Niger State’s efforts in responding to the catastrophe, which destroyed homes, farmlands, and vital sources of livelihood.

“It is time for subnational governments to work together to reduce the effects of climate change, which contributes to disasters like this,” Zulum remarked.

He also called on the Federal Government to establish a comprehensive system to address the recurring problems of flooding and other climate-related challenges.

In his response, Niger State Governor Umaru Bago expressed profound gratitude to Zulum for the visit and generous contribution, describing it as timely and a genuine show of solidarity and brotherhood.

Bago acknowledged the historical ties and shared values between Niger and Borno States. He commended Zulum’s compassion, resilience, and leadership, saying it continues to inspire fellow leaders across Nigeria.

He assured Zulum that the funds would be judiciously used to assist affected communities and support resettlement and awareness campaigns.

Bago further stressed the need to educate residents about the dangers of living in coastal and flood-prone areas to avert future disasters.
