Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has granted automatic employment to fifteen individuals with disabilities.

These individuals include those who have completed formal education and obtained degree certificates, NCE, diploma, and vocational training certificates.

The governor made this decision during a meeting with members of the Association of People Living with Disability at the Government House in Maiduguri on Saturday, April 27.

He commended individuals with disabilities present for pursuing education, adding that he had directed the Commissioner of Education, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe to process their employment applications.

Starting from May 1, 2024, they will be officially on the payroll of the Borno Government.

“I am delighted to note that despite your disability, you people are not lazy; you decided to pursue your education, and for this, I want to commend you.

“I directed the Commissioner of Education to process your application for employment for my approval immediately. Therefore, I want to bring to your kind notice that you should be on the payroll of Borno Government effective 1st May, 2024,” the Governor said.

Governor Zulum also directed the Education Minister to assess blind schools in Borno for training more individuals with disabilities.

He also instructed the Ministry of Education to plan for special education courses at the College of Education in Bama. Zulum said it was important to empower people with disabilities.
