The Rivers State House of Assembly Complex is currently being demolished following a lingering political crisis in the state.

On Wednesday morning, bulldozers were seen around the complex bringing down the Assembly building.

The demolition of the Assembly Complex is coming barely 24 hours after a Rivers State High Court recognised Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s loyalist, Edison Ehie as the Speaker of the House pending the determination of the substantial suit before it.

The strained relationship between former Governor Nyesome Wike and Governor Fubara worsened when 27 lawmakers in the state Assembly loyal to Wike out of 32 defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This leaves the PDP with 4 members, while Khana Constituency 2 remains vacant, following the demise of Hon. Dinebari Loolo in August.
