CHAN 2025 Set for February in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that the eighth edition of the African Nations Championships (CHAN) will take place from February 1 to 28, 2025 across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. This announcement was made by CAF President Patrice Motsepe on Monday.

The biennial CHAN tournament, which exclusively features players based in their home countries, will mark the first time East Africa hosts a continental football competition for national teams. It will also serve as a prelude to the 2027 African Cup of Nations, which will be jointly hosted by the three countries.

Motsepe visited three national stadiums in Kenya designated for the event, noting that two are currently undergoing renovation. He expressed satisfaction with the commitment of the host nations, highlighting the opportunity to improve football infrastructure, attract visitors, and boost tourism.

The qualification matches for the 19-team tournament are scheduled to begin on 25 October and conclude in December.

Senegal claimed victory in the previous CHAN tournament held in 2023, defeating hosts Algeria 5-4 in a penalty shootout in the final. Morocco and DR Congo are the most successful teams in CHAN history, each having won the title twice since the tournament’s inception in 2009.
