Veteran Nollywood actor and respected academic, Dr. Columbus Irosanga, has sadly passed on.
The news was shared by colleague, Hilda Dokubo, on her Instagram page on Thursday.
Dokubo wrote:
“There can’t be a shortage of Angels in heaven that the few here are called home like this na! This one is heavy on Uniport, Rivers State, Nollywood.”
“Our uncle Coli @colu_mbusirisoanga has gone to be with the Lord. Ikoli eh dein na mu.”
Dr. Irosanga, who hailed from Okrika in Rivers State, was cherished for his remarkable performances, particularly his portrayals of powerful characters such as chief priests.
He is best remembered for his iconic role as “Igbudu” in the 2001 Nollywood hit “Issakaba”. His portrayal of Igbudu remains a standout performance in the history of Nigerian cinema.
Dr. Irosanga’s career in Nollywood spanned for decades, where he became known for playing influential roles that captured the hearts of many. His talent and presence on screen earned him recognition as one of the most respected actors of his time.

Dr. Irosanga appeared in several notable films, including “Otondo”, “Ogidi”, “Amanyanabo: the Eagle King”, “Dons in Abuja”, among others.
Awards he won include: Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), Best Actor in a Drama, City People Entertainment Awards, Most Promising Actor in Nigeria, Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), Best Actor in a Leading Role, and Best of Nollywood Awards
Beyond acting, Dr. Irosanga was a passionate educator. He served as a senior lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts at the University of Port Harcourt, where he mentored and nurtured young talents in the arts.

His academic work was deeply intertwined with his professional acting career, as he dedicated much of his life to shaping the future of Nigerian theatre and cinema.
Educated in Theatre Arts, Dr. Irosanga went on to earn his doctorate, solidifying his role as an influential figure in the academic side of Nigerian theatre. His contributions to both the entertainment and academic communities have left an indelible mark.
Dr. Columbus Irosanga was married with children. Despite his fame, he remained a devoted family man, with his wife and children playing a crucial role in his personal and professional life.
His passing is a great loss to both the Nollywood industry and the academic world.
