Al-Nassr forward Cristiano Ronaldo has expressed his grief following the death of fellow Portugal international Diogo Jota, who died in a car crash in Spain on Thursday.

The 28-year-old forward for Liverpool and his younger brother, Andre, died in the early hours of the morning when their car veered off the highway and caught fire close to Cernadilla in the Zamora province of Spain.

Posting on X (formerly Twitter), Ronaldo said, “It makes no sense. We were just together with the national team, and you had just gotten married.”

Offering heartfelt condolences, he continued, “To your family, your wife, and your children, I send my deepest sympathies and wish them immense strength. I know you will always be with them. Rest in peace, Diogo and Andre. We will all miss you.”

The football world has been left in shock by Jota’s sudden death, which came just a month after he and Ronaldo celebrated Portugal’s Nations League triumph, defeating Spain in a dramatic penalty shootout.

The incident has prompted an outpouring of tributes from fans, clubs, and teammates mourning the loss of a player who had established himself as a key figure for both club and country.
