Amad Diallo has promised to “make history” with Manchester United, despite his struggling team’s miserable decline in the Premier League.
In his ten games across all competitions after taking over from the fired Erik Ten Hag, United has lost five of their games under new manager Ruben Amorim.
Before Newcastle visits Old Trafford on Monday, Amorim is under more pressure after their three recent miserable losses to Wolves, Bournemouth, and Tottenham.
United is now eight points above the relegation zone in 14th place in the Premier League.
However, Diallo has been one of United’s few bright lights, as evidenced by his recent late victory in the derby against Manchester City.
This season, the 22-year-old attacker from Ivory Coast has contributed six assists and two goals to the league total.
Diallo is determined to lead United back to the top, as are the other young players at the club.
“We are a part of the project, and we have a lot of young players for this club, especially Rasmus (Hojlund), Garna (Alejandro Garnacho), Kobbie (Mainoo), Joshua (Zirkzee), and me,” Diallo said to MUTV.
“Every game, we want to give it our all. Sometimes it doesn’t work, but as you can see from the pitch, we are committed to providing this club our best effort because we want to return it to its previous level.
“Therefore, as young men, we simply need to persevere, put in a lot of effort, and, above all, pay attention to the older players and men and learn new things daily.
“Now that we have a new manager who enjoys working with young players, we just need to follow his new system and give it our all every game.”
During the early days of Amorim’s rule, Diallo showed versatility by playing both right wingback and forward positions.
“In football, this can occur,” he continued. “Don’t concentrate on just one area. You can play striker or defender depending on the situation. I’m willing to battle for the squad wherever the manager assigns me.
“All I want to do is play anywhere—right wing, number 10. I tell the manager that if he needs a “keeper,” I’m prepared to give it my all and stand up for the squad and my teammates. Making history for our club is what I want to do.”
