Jhon Duran clinched the Guinness Goal of the Month award for September 2024 for his remarkable match-winning goal during Aston Villa’s thrilling 3-2 comeback against Everton.
Duran, a matchday substitute, scored an astounding long-range goal in the 76th minute, leading Villa to overturn a 2-0 deficit at Villa Park. His goal left his teammates, Youri Tielemans and Emiliano Martinez, astonished, both holding their heads in disbelief.
It was Duran’s third game-winning goal as a substitute in four Premier League matches.
Following his incredible goal, head coach Unai Emery commended Duran’s immense potential, while teammate Ollie Watkins praised his exceptional abilities, stating that Duran has a penchant for scoring spectacular goals.
The 20-year-old Colombian emerged as the winner after his goal topped the list of September’s best goals, based on public votes and expert opinions.
Duran becomes the first Villa player to win the award since Danny Ings claimed it in August 2021 for his scissor-kick against Newcastle United.
Having recently signed a contract until 2030, the striker will aim to continue his impressive goal-scoring form when Villa faces Fulham on Saturday, October 19.
