A final-year student of the Ebonyi State University (EBSU), Favour Ugwuka, was discovered deceased in her hostel at the Ishieke Campus in Abakaliki, the state capital.
Reports indicate that Ugwuka, a student from the Department of English, took her own life after unsuccessfully attempting to pass a specific course.
In footage circulating online, Ugwuka’s grieving mother pins the blame on a lecturer, expressing anguish over the loss of her daughter.
She painfully calls out the lecturer, Dr. Enyi, for claiming to be the best and making her lose a child.
A fellow student and friend of the deceased, identified as Rex Nwome, shed light on Ugwuka’s struggles. Nwome revealed that the lecturer had vowed to obstruct Ugwuka’s graduation.
Despite passing all other courses, this one remained an insurmountable obstacle for Ugwuka, forcing her to endure additional tuition fees and another year of study.
According to reports, Ugwuka’s anguish intensified when her name was absent from the recent National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) shortlist.
Nwome further recounted Ugwuka’s descent into depression as she struggled with her thwarted aspirations of graduation and national service.
“She was very desperate to graduate and serve. This and many more of the disgusting stories resulted in this suicide mission,” he recounted.
The Ebonyi State Police Command’s spokesman, DSP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the tragic incident.
“Yes, the command received the report of suicide by a female student,” he acknowledged.
