The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) says it has placed diaspora sponsors of the ongoing nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests on a watchlist.

The Comptroller General of NIS, Kemi Nanna Nandap, said during a meeting with the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa and other security heads on Tuesday, that the NIS will arrest and hand over these sponsors to the appropriate authorities upon their arrival in Nigeria.

“We have diaspora sponsors; they are on our watchlist. They are watchlisted. Any attempt they make to come into the country, we’ll be notified, and they will be picked up and handed to the appropriate authority,” she said.

Nandap mentioned that the NIS has increased security at borders and airports by deploying more officers due to the #EndBadGovernance protests.

She also said that the NIS has enhanced surveillance to prevent foreign interference in the country.

News Central reports that the nationwide protests against bad governance and economic hardship began on Thursday, August 1, 2024.

Despite President Bola Tinubu’s recent national address calling for an end to the action, protests entered the day six today, Tuesday, August 6, 2024.
