At least five political parties are set to participate in the upcoming local government election in Katsina State on Saturday.

The parties include the Accord Party, Booth Party, African Action Congress (AAC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

However, 86 other registered parties have opted out of the election for undisclosed reasons.

Chairman of the Katsina State Electoral Commission, Lawal Faskari, announced this on Tuesday during a press briefing at the commission’s headquarters.

Faskari confirmed that all necessary arrangements have been finalised to ensure a peaceful election on February 15, 2025.

Non-sensitive materials have already been distributed across the 34 local government areas, while sensitive materials will be dispatched on the eve of the election.

He also reminded political parties to conclude their campaigns 24 hours before polling day, in line with electoral regulations.
