Nigeria’s Flamingos returned to Nigeria on Tuesday evening, November 1, after winning bronze at the 2022 FIFA Women’s Under-17 World Cup in India. The Nigerian females were presented with a three-million naira cheque upon their arrival at the airport, as promised by Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa.

Musa was thrilled by the Flamingos’ World Cup performances, particularly their third-place match against Germany, which they won 3-2 on penalties.

The Nigerian ladies were leading 3-0 before the 72nd minute, and they appeared to be on their way to victory until Germany battled back from behind to level and force the contest to penalties. Jella Veit and Mathilde Janzen scored Germany’s two penalties, while Paulina Platner and Bender sent their efforts wide. Faith Omilana stopped Paulina Bartz’s penalty kick, which made sure the Falcons came in third place.
