Forbes Ranks Lagos, Cairo Among World’s Riskiest Cities for Tourists

The Forbes Advisor’s 2024 rankings places Lagos and Cairo among the top 10 riskiest places for tourists globally.

Lagos has a risk score of 91.54, making it the fourth riskiest city, while Cairo ranks eighth with a risk score of 83.44.

The Venezuelan capital, Caracas, was identified as the most dangerous city for travellers, with a full risk score of 100, followed by Karachi, Pakistan, with a score of 93.12, and Yangon, Myanmar, at 91.67, also flagged as some of the most hazardous destinations.

Other cities in the top 10 include Manila, Philippines (91.49), Dhaka, Bangladesh (89.5), Bogota, Colombia (86.7), Mexico City, Mexico (82.43), and Quito, Ecuador (82.02).

Forbes’ study assessed 60 international cities across seven risk categories: crime, personal security, health, infrastructure, natural disasters, and digital security. These factors were used to calculate a comprehensive travel safety rating, with scores out of 100 reflecting the overall risk to travellers.

Security is a crucial consideration for tourists when planning trips, alongside attractions, cultural experiences, accommodation options, and local cuisine.

The study highlights the significant influence of safety concerns on travel decisions, particularly regarding crime, political unrest, health risks, and natural disasters.

The rankings stresses the importance of evaluating security risks when choosing travel destinations to ensure an enjoyable and stress-free journey.
