Lois Boisson, a French tennis player who unexpectedly advanced to the Roland Garros semifinals earlier this month, lost in the first round of Wimbledon qualifying.
The French number one, now ranked 65th globally, lost to Canada’s Carson Branstine, ranked 197th, in her professional grass-court debut on Tuesday.
Boisson, 22, struggled to adapt to the unfamiliar grass surface, which is significantly different from her preferred clay.

She was defeated 6-2, 6-7 (1/7), 6-4 after nearly two hours of play on a windy Court 1 in Roehampton, where the Wimbledon qualifying rounds are held.
Despite her sensational run at the French Open, where she entered as a wildcard ranked 361st and notably defeated world number three Jessica Pegula and sixth seed Mirra Andreeva before falling to eventual champion Coco Gauff in the semi-finals, Boisson did not receive a direct invitation to the main draw of Wimbledon.
Consequently, by her improved ranking, she was the top seed in the qualifying tournament.
