American second seed Coco Gauff was upset at Wimbledon on Tuesday as the French Open champion lost 7-6 (7/3), 6-1 to Ukrainian world number 42 Dayana Yastremska on Tuesday.
Gauff was anticipated to perform strongly at the All England Club following her victory at Roland Garros in June.
However, instead of capitalising on her Paris success, the 21-year-old experienced her earliest Grand Slam exit since another first-round defeat at Wimbledon in 2023.
Yastremska surged to victory in 78 minutes on Court One, with Gauff joining third seed Jessica Pegula and fifth seed Zheng Qinwen as notable exits from the tournament on Tuesday.
Gauff, a two-time Grand Slam champion, has not advanced past the fourth round in any of her six appearances at Wimbledon.

She struggled with an unusually high number of errors, including nine double-faults, 29 unforced mistakes, and only six winners.
Yastremska has previously stated that she has an allergy to grass, but the 25-year-old’s surprising win over Gauff highlighted her strong recent performance on the surface.
Due to her high-profile modelling on Instagram, Yastremska was recognised for her glamorous presence on the women’s tour. In June, she reached the Nottingham final and the Eastbourne quarter-finals.
