    Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has conveyed his deep gratitude to the troops of the Nigerian Army (NA) for their unwavering commitment and courage in defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

    In a statement issued by Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, General Lagbaja lauded the troops for their dedication and resilience in combating terrorism and addressing other emerging security threats across the nation.

    During an operational visit to the 23rd Brigade, Nigerian Army, stationed at the Gibson Jalo Cantonment in Yola, Adamawa State, General Lagbaja expressed his desire to personally assess the welfare and readiness of the troops, noting the importance of their sacrificial service.

    Highlighting the ongoing transformational initiatives within the Nigerian Army, General Lagbaja emphasised the crucial support provided by the Federal Government in equipping the troops with essential combat tools and enhancing their welfare schemes.

    Specifically, he announced the government’s approval of funds to settle the backlog of Group Life Assurance claims dating back to 2012, alongside efforts to improve the working and living conditions of personnel and their families.

    Addressing the challenges identified during his visit to the Brigade, General Lagbaja assured swift resolutions, reaffirming the Army’s commitment to addressing operational obstacles promptly.

    During his stay in Adamawa, General Lagbaja paid a courtesy visit to Honourable Ahmadu Umar Fintiri, the State Governor, at the State House. He expressed gratitude to the state government and its citizens for their unwavering support towards fostering peace and stability in the region, urging continued collaboration to bolster the troops’ operations.

    In response, Governor Fintiri acknowledged the significant reduction in crime within the state and praised the commendable efforts of the troops and interagency cooperation. He pledged continued support from his administration to the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to ensure a secure environment for all residents.
