Prince Adesuyi Haastrup has been appointed as the new Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijesha land, with the approval of Ademola Adeleke, the Governor of Osun State.
Prince Johnson Adekanmi Abikoye was also approved by the governor as the new Asaoni of Ora Igbomina.
The two monarchs’ consent was confirmed and authorised during the Osun State Executive Council Meeting, which was chaired by the governor on Friday, according to a press release issued by Kolapo Alimi, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment.
The statement claims that Prince Haastrup’s appointment as the new Owa-elect followed the death of Oba (Dr.) Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran II, the immediate past Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijesha land, on September 11, 2024, and Prince Abikoye’s appointment as the new Asaoni of Ora Igbomina followed the death of Oba Tinuoye Atolagbe on November 19, 2023.
In addition to congratulating the two recently crowned monarchs, who he claimed were chosen through the proper procedures following Osun State’s 2002 Chiefs’ Law (cap 25), Adeleke urged all of the two towns’ sons and daughters to work with their new traditional leaders, especially by letting peace and unity be the main focus.
During the final State Executive Council meeting of 2024, Governor Adeleke also passed a vote of confidence on all members of his Executive Council for what he called a job well done in the year that was about to end.
Although the governor was very pleased with their performance, he challenged them to go above and beyond the accomplishments of all of them in 2025 by fulfilling their legal obligations as Osun State Executive Council members.
