Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos State, has appointed six Special Advisers (non-Cabinet) to work in a variety of ministries.
This information was released in a statement on Monday by Barrister ‘Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, Secretary to the State Government, SSG.
Those who have recently been appointed as Special Advisers are Dr. (Mrs.) Iyabo Ayoola, Special Adviser, Central Internal Audit, Special Advisor for Economic Planning and Budget, Olalekan Balogun Ismail Odesanya, Special Adviser, DAWN Commission and S/W Integration, Very Rev. Bukola Adebiyi, Special Adviser, Christian Religion, Dr. Abdullahi Jb, Special Adviser, Muslim Religion, and Akinyemi Ajigbotafe, Special Adviser, Community Development.
The SSG congratulated the new hires and urged them to support Governor Sanwo-Olu’s plan for a “Greater Lagos” with their contributions.
The appointments take effect immediately.
Sanwo-Olu Also Screens for Cabinet Nominees
On Sunday, the Lagos State House of Assembly began screening the cabinet nominees sent to it by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Friday, July 28.
By the end of Monday, an ad hoc committee of the House formed for the task had screened 20 of the 39 nominees.
All cabinet nominees are expected to have been screened by Wednesday when the process is expected to conclude.
The committee, led by House Chief Whip Mojeed Fatai, screened Mobolaji Ogunlende, Dr Olajide Babatunde, Lawal Pedro, and Afolabi Ayantayo, the immediate-past Special Adviser to the Governor on Parastatals Monitoring.
Jamiu Alli-Balogun, Olugbenga Olaniyi, Ogunwuyi Ekundayo, Olakunle Rotimi-Akodu, Ibrahim Layode, and an immediate-past Badagry state lawmaker, Adetokunbo Wahab, were also screened on Sunday.
Adetoke Benson-Awoyinka, the immediate-past Special Adviser to Governor Sanwo-Olu on Housing, and Bola Lawal, a former Executive Secretary of Yaba Local Council Development Area, were grilled by the committee on Monday.
Others screened on Monday were Yakubu Alebiosu, Idris Aregbe, Abdul-Kabir Ogungbo, Dr Oreoluwa Finnih-Awokoya, Abiola Olowu, Dr Adekunle Olayinka, Mosopefolu George, and Aramide Adeyoye.
Mudashiru Obasa, the Speaker of the House, had recently formed a 12-member ad hoc committee for the exercise.
The Chief Whip stated at the start of the screening that the task before the lawmakers was in accordance with a provision of the 1999 Constitution.
“The House of Assembly has the authority to screen and confirm nominees for commissioners and Special Advisers.”
“Recall that the Executive Governor of Lagos State submitted a total of 39 commissioners and Special Adviser nominees on July 28, 2023,” he said, adding that the committee’s recommendations would be presented to the House.
Adedamola Kasumu, Ajomale Oladipo, Saheed Babafemi, Nureni Akinsanya, and Ajani Owolabi are among those on the screening committee.
Others include Sa’ad Olumo, Sanni Okanlawon, Adewale Temitope, Ajayi Oladele, Abdulkareem Jubril, and Orekoya Abiodun.
