Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has strongly condemned the gruesome murder of two young indigenes of the state — Barhama Suleiman and Jamilu Ahmad, who were killed in Makurdi, Benue State.
According to a statement released on Tuesday, June 24, by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the victims were reportedly attacked around 11:00 p.m. on Monday by yet-to-be-identified assailants and were murdered in cold blood without any provocation.
In a strongly worded message, Governor Yusuf expressed profound grief over the incident, describing the killings as “barbaric, senseless, and unacceptable.”

“It is with a heavy heart and deep sense of loss that we announce the passing of two promising sons of Kano. They were innocent, peace-loving citizens whose only crime was exercising their constitutional right to live and work in any part of Nigeria,” the Governor said.
He assured the public that the Kano State Government is working tirelessly to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.
“This government will not rest until justice is served. We call for calm and restraint as we work closely with security agencies at all levels and the Benue State Government to bring the murderers to justice.
“Nigeria belongs to all of us. Every citizen has the right to live, move, and thrive in any part of this country without fear of discrimination or violence,” he added.
Governor Yusuf also announced that he would personally lead a high-powered delegation — including the families of the deceased — to attend the funeral prayers scheduled to hold at the National Mosque in Abuja today, June 24, 2025.
While consoling the bereaved families, the governor extended his condolences to prominent Islamic scholar Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil, father of the two victims. He described the tragedy not only as a personal loss to the families but also a painful blow to Kano State and the entire country.
The Kano State Government reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the safety and protection of its citizens wherever they may be and called on the public to remain peaceful and law-abiding as investigations continue into the heartbreaking incident.
