American actress Amanda Seyfried stands by her decision to decline the role of Gamora in Marvel’s popular “Guardians of the Galaxy” franchise.
On Wednesday’s episode of the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, Seyfried talked candidly about her decision-making process, stating that she “got the offer for it” and even “milled over it for a couple of days.”
“For whatever reason, I didn’t want to spend six months of the year in London,” she remarked. “I wanted to work with Seth MacFarlane on another film called ‘A Million Ways to Die in the West.’ It seemed like a fantastic chance.”
In the “Guardians” franchise, Zoe Saldaña, a recent Oscar winner, famously played Gamora, the whole green heroine. In addition to the 2018 film Avengers: Infinity War and the 2019 film Avengers: Endgame, Saldaña has starred in all three of the Guardians movies.

Seyfried expressed her worries about “being a part of a Marvel movie that bombs,” saying that the situation “ain’t good for your career.”
She remarked, “I assumed that this would be Marvel’s first bomb and that Chris Pratt and I would never collaborate again because it was about a talking tree and a talking raccoon. Oh, I was mistaken.”
She was wrong. The box office receipts for the three “Guardians” films totalled over $2 billion worldwide between 2014 and 2023.
In the end, Seyfried acknowledged that she was “way too scared.”
According to her, “I didn’t want to suffer for the work because I was at a precarious moment in my career. I simply wasn’t interested in doing it because I had already done some green screen work and it wasn’t my style.”
She went on, “I have no regrets about any of my decisions. For myself, I made it. It was beneficial to me when I made it, and it is still beneficial to me today.
