General Mamady Doumbouya, the leader of Guinea’s military junta, has issued a directive prohibiting ministers from travelling abroad without authorisation. He has ordered the recall of all ministers currently outside the country, as announced by his office.

According to the government’s general secretary, the directive, released on Thursday, is effective immediately and will remain in place until the end of the year.

The statement mandates that all ministers on international missions conclude their activities and return to national territory. Several ministers are currently overseas.

Government spokesperson Ousmane Gaoual Diallo stated that the decision was made to reduce public expenditures.

He also said that senior members of government departments and diplomats are still authorised to represent the country abroad.
