Danish eighth seed Holger Rune suffered a surprising first-round exit at Wimbledon on Monday, squandering a two-set lead against Chile’s Nicolas Jarry.
Rune, 22, was defeated 4-6, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4 in a match lasting three hours and 34 minutes on Court Three at the All England Club.
This loss means Rune has yet to advance past the quarter-finals at any of the four Grand Slams; his best previous Wimbledon performance was reaching the last eight in 2023.

World number 143 Jarry will now move on to face American Learner Tien, ranked 62nd, in the second round.
