Delegates from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), a globally renowned humanitarian organisation, paid a courtesy visit to News Central TV’s headquarters in Lagos, as part of its ongoing commitment to fostering stronger relationships with media organisations and promoting journalist safety in conflict zones.
During the visit, ICRC representatives engaged with News Central TV’s representatives to discuss avenues for collaboration in humanitarian reporting and crisis communication. Recognising the crucial role journalists play in informing the public, often from the frontlines of conflict, the ICRC emphasised the importance of equipping reporters with essential life-saving skills.
A key highlight of the visit was an invitation to specialised training sessions on first aid and pre-hospital care, tailored for conflict reporters. The program to be delivered by ICRC experts focuses on practical techniques and emergency response protocols that can help journalists protect themselves and others while reporting from volatile environments.

This initiative aligns with the ICRC’s mission to protect lives and dignity during armed conflict and internal violence, and to support those who risk their lives to bring critical stories to light.
“The safety of journalists is paramount, especially as they cover stories in challenging and sometimes dangerous settings,” said Louis Eke, Director of News at News Central TV.
Aliyu Dawobe, Spokesperson of the ICRC, expressed joy in strengthening ties with News Central TV and providing assistance, ensuring that reporters are better prepared to respond to emergencies and continue their vital work safely.
News Central TV’s management expressed appreciation for the ICRC’s support and reaffirmed the station’s dedication to responsible, impactful journalism. The collaboration marks a significant step towards building a safer, more resilient media community in Nigeria and across the region.
