Iran’s judiciary disclosed on Monday that it executed a man convicted of espionage on behalf of Israel, as the conflict between the two nations reached its 11th day.

“Mohammad-Amin Mahdavi Shayesteh was hanged this morning for intelligence cooperation with the Zionist regime,” the judiciary said.

Shayesteh was accused of having connections with Mossad, the Israeli intelligence agency. Additionally, he faced charges for collaborating with Iran International, a Persian-language television network located in London that criticises the Iranian regime. The Iranian government views the broadcaster as affiliated with Israel.

During the widespread protests in 2022 triggered by the death of Mahsa Amini while in custody, authorities labelled the channel as a “terrorist organisation.”

Amini, a young Kurdish woman, had been detained for allegedly breaching the strict dress code imposed on women by the Islamic Republic.

The country often publicises the arrests or executions of individuals accused of collaborating with foreign intelligence services, especially those linked to Israel. On Sunday, officials committed to accelerating the handling of such cases.

On the same day, the judiciary declared the execution of Majid Mosayebi, who was also found guilty of acting as a Mossad agent.
