Iran has appointed a new head of intelligence for its Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) after the previous chief was killed in an Israeli airstrike, the official IRNA news agency reported on Thursday.

Brigadier General Majid Khadami was chosen by Major General Mohammad Pakpour, the IRGC commander, to lead the intelligence division, replacing Mohammed Kazemi.

Kazemi died alongside two other senior Guards officers, Hassan Mohaghegh and Mohsen Bagheri, in the Israeli attack on Sunday.

Pakpour himself was recently appointed after Israel targeted his predecessor, Hossein Salami, in a strike on June 13.

“In the years under the leadership of our martyred commanders Kazemi and Mohaghegh, we saw substantial growth across all intelligence sectors within the IRGC,” Pakpour stated.

Last week, Israel launched a series of unprovoked air raids on Iranian nuclear and military sites, alleging Iran was close to developing a nuclear weapon—a claim Tehran denies.

The strikes killed several senior Iranian officials, prompting retaliatory actions by Iran, including an attack on an Israeli hospital on Thursday.

Following his appointment by Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei last Friday, Pakpour vowed a severe response, threatening to “open the gates of hell” in retaliation for Israel’s assaults.

Meanwhile, high-ranking Israeli officials have publicly discussed targeting Khamenei himself.
