Iranian President to Attend BRICS Summit in Russia Despite Tensions with the West

Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian is set to attend the upcoming BRICS summit in Russia, Tehran’s ambassador in Moscow confirmed, as Western countries express concerns over military collaboration between Iran and Russia.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken warned on Tuesday that Russia had received ballistic missiles from Iran and could deploy them in Ukraine within weeks. Blinken stated that the deepening cooperation between Moscow and Tehran posed a threat to broader European security.

In response, the United States, Germany, Britain, and France imposed fresh sanctions on Iran, including measures targeting its national airline, Iran Air. Despite this, Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi, denied the transfer of ballistic missiles to Russia, dismissing the sanctions as ineffective.

Kazem Jalali, Iran’s ambassador to Russia, confirmed on Sunday that Pezeshkian will participate in the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia, from October 22 to 24. During the summit, Pezeshkian is expected to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin. The two nations are also preparing to sign a comprehensive cooperation agreement, further strengthening their ties.
