Nigerian Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, who represents Ondo South, has become a member of the Senate at the University of Cambridge in England. As a member of the university’s Senate, Senator Ibrahim will participate in the upcoming election for the next Chancellor, which is set for the summer of 2025.
The university’s returning officer, Emma Rampton, informed Senator Ibrahim of this last week. Although the university was initially founded in 1209, the Senate has governed it since 1926.
Members of the university Senate create ordinances that guide their operations, while the Regent House may also delegate various executive and administrative responsibilities to them or assign these by statute.
The Senate advises the Regent House on issues of general interest to the University.

Ibrahim, who studied at Churchill College within the university, was the first to obtain a Doctorate in Business since the year the university was established in 1209.
The Nigerian lawmaker graduated from the University of Oxford with a master’s degree from a major program and a Bachelor of Science in International Relations from the University of London. He also holds a degree from Harvard Law School and has obtained another doctorate from the University of Buckingham, among other qualifications.
