The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Nigeria has officially opened a new rehabilitation centre at its Kano command headquarters. Alongside the centre, the agency also inaugurated two newly constructed terrace flats for the accommodation of personnel from the Kano Zonal Command and other areas in the North West region of the country.

Buba Marwa, the Chairman and CEO of the NDLEA, presided over the commissioning ceremony and urged the agency’s officers to remain resolute in their fight against illegal drug trafficking and the individuals involved in it. He remarked that the event was further evidence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s dedication to improving the welfare of security personnel, including those working within the NDLEA.

Marwa stressed that the effectiveness of the officers was dependent not only on their training and equipment but also on their living conditions. He added that a secure and comfortable home environment strengthens the morale, enhances focus, and fortifies the resolve of those fighting the societal scourge of drug abuse.

He also reminded those present that the NDLEA had commissioned its first-ever barracks in February in Yola, Adamawa state, and recently completed another barracks in Abuja, which is awaiting an official opening by President Tinubu. Similar projects are in progress in Enugu and Lagos.

The NDLEA chief stated that the newly commissioned facilities were more than just buildings; they were symbols of peace, assurance, and respect for the officers. They represent the agency’s commitment to improving the living standards of its personnel, a key factor in enabling them to tackle the complex challenges posed by the drug trade.

Marwa acknowledged the sacrifices of the officers and highlighted the significant impact they had made in the past year through their arrests, seizures, and convictions. He emphasised the critical role Kano, with its international border and airport, plays in the fight against drug trafficking. Marwa called on the officers to continue their efforts, with an eye towards even greater achievements in the future.

He urged those moving into the new accommodation to treat the facilities with care and respect. The ceremony was also marked by the promotion of Maryam Gambo Sani to the rank of Deputy Commander General of Narcotics (DCGN), a gesture that was recognised by Marwa. He concluded by expressing gratitude to President Tinubu for his continued support.
