On Tuesday, concerned residents in Katsina State gathered at the Katsina Arabic Teachers College Playground and three other open spaces in the state capital, seeking divine intervention for the ongoing economic hardship, insecurity, and poor governance affecting the country.
The prayer event, which saw participation from both men and women under tight security, was marked by peaceful conduct. Residents prayed for Almighty Allah to end the persistent economic struggles, hunger, insecurity, and poor governance plaguing the nation. They also requested divine intervention to remove those they believe are contributing to these issues, including politicians, traditional leaders, business elites, security personnel, clerics, and individuals from various social classes.
Participants performed the Al-Qunut Prayer, a specific supplication made during prayer, especially recommended during times of calamity. A similar prayer session was held early Monday morning at Filin Samji, Filin Yammawa, and Filin Canada football grounds.
One participant expressed their purpose for attending: “We came here to worship God and pray for Him to wipe away our tears.”
The organizers of the End Bad Governance Protests had initially scheduled nationwide prayers for Saturday, August 10, 2024, to be held in various mosques and churches to seek divine intervention.
This development follows a violent protest that led the state government to impose a curfew. However, on Tuesday morning, Acting Governor Faruk Jobe eased the 24-hour movement restriction imposed on Dutsinma Local Government Area and other 33 Local Government Areas in the state.
