A Kenyan officer deployed with the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission in Haiti went missing on Tuesday following an encounter with armed gangs, the MSS said in a statement.
According to the statement, the officer was part of a special forces team that came under attack while assisting a Haitian National Police vehicle that had become stuck in a ditch, which is suspected to have been deliberately dug by gangs.

Local media reports suggested that the missing officer had been killed, with videos circulating on social media appearing to show a soldier in a bloody uniform lying on the ground.
The incident highlights the growing dangers faced by security forces in Haiti, where heavily armed gangs have seized control of large parts of the capital, Port-au-Prince, and other regions, overwhelming local law enforcement efforts.
