A vehicle accident in Lokoja, the capital of Kogi State, has reportedly claimed the lives of at least six people and injured 60 more.
The collision happened on Tuesday at approximately 3 p.m. close to the Zone 8 Roundabout on Hassan Katsina Road in Lokoja.
The catastrophic collision was caused by an articulated truck that was driving from Bauchi to Enugu State when it lost control.
According to Samuel Oyedeji, State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, “the remains of the six deceased were deposited at the Federal University Teaching Hospital mortuary.”
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a resident described tumultuous scenes as emergency personnel toiled diligently to control the accident’s aftermath.
“The image was horrifying,” the resident claimed, adding that it took hours to clear the situation and that people were stranded.

Oyedeji called on the government to step up efforts to fix road infrastructure issues and enforce traffic laws, and he advised drivers to use caution, particularly when driving heavy trucks.
“Nigerians are once again reminded of the shared responsibility to ensure safer roads for everyone as investigations into the accident’s cause continue,” he stated.
Oyedeji revealed that an articulated cement truck and a commercial Sharon bus were involved in a collision near Obajana Market on Obajana-Lokoja Road in the state’s Lokoja Local Government Area.
According to the sector commander, the cement truck lost its brake and collided with the Sharon bus from behind after it had parked behind a truck so that people could buy some goods at the market.
