The Lagos State government has immediately suspended planning approvals along the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road, according to a statement issued by Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, on Monday.
Olumide explained that halting planning approvals along the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road is essential to managing the project’s effects on the State’s Physical Development Plans in the region.
“As a result of the effects of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road on our Development Plans, it is germane to review the situation on ground and align it with the Development Plans to forestall any further distortion now or in the nearest future.
“In this connection, it is equally important to temporarily suspend Planning Approvals in the axis until further notice. “the commissioner said.

He added that the project had considerably influenced the recently completed Ode-Omi Action Area Plan, the current Ibeju-Lekki Model City Plan, and the Lekki Comprehensive Master Plan, which are all at different stages of development.
Olumide stressed that the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority has been instructed to enforce this suspension order until further notice.
He reassured that the Lagos State Government remains dedicated to fostering an organised, livable, inclusive, and sustainable built environment and that the state is well-equipped to gain numerous advantages from the inter-state Coastal Highway.
